Disability Access

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with disabilities, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our pupils, staff and visitors.

Fynamore School was opened in 2001, and was purpose-built as a primary school. We are committed to meeting the expectations and needs of everyone using our school building, identifying and removing any barriers to building use should they exist.

The current facilities at the school include the following:

  • There is step-free, level access to the school from the street.

  • The whole school is on the ground floor, with step-free, level access, throughout.

  • There are automatically opening doors to the main school entrance by the office.

  • The reception desk has been lowered to facilitate wheelchair access.

  • There are comfortable chairs adjacent to the entrance door.

  • The floor surface is carpeted throughout (except for the hall).

  • Flooring and other surfaces are in distinct colour blocks to enhance differentiation for the visually impaired.

  • The school is evenly and well-lit with overhead lighting from fluorescent lights.

  • There are disabled toilet facilities in the school.

  • There are two disabled parking spaces in the school staff car park, which are available to visitors, and to parents with a disability and/or parents of a child with a disability, by prior arrangement.

All the school policies take account of the overall objective of the school’s Equality Policy, in line with the Equality Act 2010. This provides a framework for the school to pursue its equality duties, to eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment, promote equality of opportunity and promote good relations and positive attitudes between people of diverse backgrounds in all its activities.
